So your kitchen sink got clogged. It’s only normal after everything that has gone down there. The main reason for a clogged sink is that people are not careful about what they drain. Even though mostly anything what goes down is eventually going to cause you trouble, some things are way worse than others. Here are some of the worse:

  • Grease
  • Coffee grounds
  • Eggshells
  • Pasta, rice, beans

Here, we’ll give you the steps you need to follow to unclog your sink.

First, try plunging it:

Before you do this, a word of warning: If you have a double sink, you need someone to help you block the other drain with a rag while you plunge! This is very important, otherwise you will have a really unpleasant mess.

First, make sure the drain is completely covered by the plunger. Then just give it firm and hard plunges for about 10 seconds. This should work, but sometimes it takes a little bit more.

Another technique for unclogging your sink is to pour vinegar and baking soda in it.

The amounts you can use are:

1 cup of baking soda

1 cup of table salt

3/4 cup of white vinegar

Next, wait for 5 minutes and then flush boiling water. About one or two quarts. The mixture of baking soda, salt and vinegar produces a chemical reaction, so expect some foam to show up. Using this technique will not only unclog your sink, but it will also clean it from accumulated grease and other waste.
